Geneseo cross country continued their successful season on Saturday Oct. 5 traveling to run at the Lehigh Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Penn., as well as the Houghton Highlander Invitational in Houghton, N.Y. The women’s squad placed a runner in first place in both races, as senior Genny Corcoran and senior Molly Byrne left everyone in the dust behind them. The men’s group performed well but didn’t have a runner place first in either race.

“Hey Herbstreit, O-H!” screamed the packed “Block O North” student section, hoping to gain the attention of former Buckeye quarterback and ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, located more than 200 rows away in Ohio Stadium’s press box. Surprisingly enough, the former Buckeye heard the cheer and responded, as one does, by miming the customary “I-O” response with his arms above his head. This story, and Saturday’s wider Ohio State game experience, is representative of one of the nation’s most ravenous student fanbases, as well as the entire state, and even national community, that supports them. Ohio State football games are some of the most electric sporting events of the year and, in preparation for the upcoming hockey season, maybe the Geneseo community can take some notes.

Women’s soccer continues its impressive start this year as they sit atop the SUNYAC standings and have found themselves ranked 16th nationally in Division III. More impressive by far has been the play of sophomore forward Hannah Sullivan as she has become a true star for the Knights. She tied the league lead for scoring with three goals and two assists in just two games this weekend, giving her eight goals on the season and the most goals of any player in the SUNYAC.

This past weekend the Knights continued their undefeated SUNYAC record with wins over the SUNY Buffalo State Bengals and the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils. Both matches were settled in three sets. In the Friday match versus the Bengals, set scores were 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19. The Saturday match versus the Blue Devils was very similar, with the Knights sweeping their opponent.

Winning has become the norm for the Geneseo field hockey team. The last time the 10-2 Knights lost a game, Geneseo students could still add or drop a class, it was still technically summer and the NFL season was only one week old.

While I am personally pro-choice, I have no problems with Students for Life putting on events with the purpose of furthering their political agenda. It is important to civically engage as students. However, I strongly disagree with the ethics of showing this film when it presents factually incorrect information.
